    cleaned my keyboard

    i opened my curtains up this afternoon to let some sunlight in and glanced down at my keyboard.  i was completely disgusted with what i saw..  it's hard to tell in this photo so you'll have to take my word for it.
     
    ewww..  it's full of crud.
     
    i guess this sort of thing happens when your workstation doubles as your dinner area.  i remembered reading on boingboing that people had put their keyboards in dishwashers to clean them but i don't happen to have a dishwasher.  so i figured i'd just blast the thing with hot water from my shower head and see if that would do.
     
    i've got duckies on my shower curtain..
     
    hot hot hot..
     
    lotsa gross stuff came out..
     
    i spent a good 5 minutes doing this..
     
    ok, clean enuff..  :P
     
    i put it outside to dry..
     
    most of the advice i found on boingboing was saying that i should let it dry for three days..  but i got a little impatient so i rigged it up in front of an industrial fan.
     
     
    after an hour i plugged it in and guess what..  it's as good as new!  i'm using it right now!  woo!
     
    **disclaimer** i think the cheaper the keyboard, the more likely this will work.  don't try this with a wireless keyboard or one that is fancy.  don't try this if you don't have a backup keyboard.  i'm not responsable if you destroy your keyboard doing this.

    Hey, I reckon this could work...has any1 tried it with a wireless keyboard? mine is really sticky from spilling some random alcoholic drink on it last night, and can't decide whether or not to try it or just put up with the stickiness!!!

    Yeah I accidentally washed mine with a red bull and vodka on my twenty-first. Unfortunately since it was wireless it got really sticky and never worked again. The shower seems like a much better idea.
